APRIL 2006 JOURNAL by Chris Dunmire

Nutty Ideas Fit to Print

If you’re a reader of the Montgomery County Sentinel (in Maryland, USA), you may have seen my Googly-Eyed Peanut Pets project printed in the paper’s Learning Links section on March 23. How did that happen? The paper’s youth services director asked for permission to include my project in the paper after finding it on my Web site. She thought the pets would be "fun and foolish to include in their April Fool's Day issue" and being the opportunist humorist I am, granted permission.

See the newspaper clipping and the Peanut Pets project online.

This shameless plug for one of the goofiest ideas I’ve ever shared on the Web has this lesson in it for you: I en-courage you to fully embrace your creativity by going with your own flow and following through with your creative ideas (even the zany ones) no matter what you think other people will think. It’s your creative life to spend as you see fit, whether it’s painting beautiful still-life onto canvases or gluing googly eyes onto peanuts.

You never know what opportunities will open up for you when you bravely put yourself out there. If I can glue googly eyes onto peanuts and make a project out of it that ends up published in a newspaper halfway across the country, just imagine what YOU can do with your talents. Are you ready to break out of your shell? Get crackin’!

Something New is Brewing…

As if my above experience isn’t enough, I have promising news for those of you seeking to increase your creativity. After working closely with the product development team at a major U.S. beverage company, I'm about to launch a new product that will take the creative market by storm.

Get a sneak peek at it here.
