Self-Sabotage: How to Stop Creative Neglect

APRIL 2006 JOURNAL by Chris Dunmire

CreativiTea April Fool’s Joke

I enjoyed the e-mails I received in response to the CreativiTea April Fool’s joke I slipped into the last newsletter. Remember, if you’re feeling free-atively frisky you can still download my tea bag wrappers and mock-up your own CreativiTea packets to humor your tea-loving pals. They’re available online here.

Here’s something else that’s cool about that CreativiTea concept. After unleashing my joke on the world, I learned that Jill Badonsky (author of “The Nine Modern Day Muses”) has been facilitating events with the Creativi-TEA theme for some time. In fact, she will be at the café at Transitions Bookplace in Chicago, Illinois, on Thursday, April 27, 2006, running a workshop that includes tea, cookies, and plenty of creativity.

How an Article on the Creativity Portal Grew into a Book

Have you ever wondered what an author might do in response to overwhelming feedback to an original article they have published on the Creativity Portal? Well, here’s one story you can’t miss. In August 2005, we published an article by creativity coach Durga (Jori) Keyser titled “11 Tips to surviving a day job with your creativity intact."

The article on our site made its way onto a major blog feed that brought thousands of visitors to the Creativity Portal to read it. That explosive interest resulted in Durga receiving so much feedback on the subject of day jobs that she kept with the topic and went onto write a 160 page e-book titled “The Day Job Survival (& Escape) Kit.”

Now I bet you’re wondering if you can read a sample this book somewhere, right? Well, Durga graciously shared an excerpt from “The Day Job Survival (& Escape) Kit” with us in a new article titled “Work lightly: Be joyous.”

We’re thrilled at Durga’s success with her original day job article and the subsequent book it grew into. What an inspiring story!
