"Still want rules? Well, let me suggest you find your own set. Make sure these rules are ways to liberate, not inhibit, the best in you." — Bruce Price,The Rules of Poetry
Inspired by this week's Creative Careers Interview with Kristen Fischer, I was reminded of an old co-worker who had a passion for making silk flower arrangements and would have happily given up her day-job if she knew she could successfully pursue flower arranging full-time.
How many of us likewise would drop our day-jobs like a hot potato if we knew that tomorrow we could instantly "turn on" our dream-jobs as an artist, writer, or _______ (fill in the blank) with the simple flip of a switch? Kristen's interview addresses this kind of wishful thinking and contains some good nuggets of wisdom about not just "quitting" and making strategic transitions into these types of job changes.
Following in the theme of not being a "quitter", I wrote about my co-worker and shared some of my own thoughts about the matter of day-jobs and dream-jobs in a piece titled Transitioning into Your Creative Dream Job. If you'd like to share your own experience about making this transition, I'd love to hear from you.

Love of the Craft Revealing Intimate Details about Your Life By Dave Duggins
Q. I wrote a novel about my life. In it, I detailed my most intimate feelings and secrets. I was struggling with publishing it — struggling with the world seeing my life, horrible and passionate as it was. My daughter read the novel and was using parts of it to play against me. I was so hurt I threw it away. And now I have a horrible time with picking up the pen writing anything. How do I overcome that?
