ICAF: Harnessing Children's Imagination for Positive Social Change
By Chris Dunmire, Publisher
I first met Ashfaq Ishaq online in 2003 when he wrote On the Importance of Creativity for the Creativity Portal Web site, and I immediately became a supporter of his work with the International Child Art Foundation (ICAF). When he followed up with Children + Creativity = Peace about Children's Peace Day on September 11, 2003, I realized how much potential ICAF had to shift consciousness in children and adults with its focus on developing more creativity and compassion in our world.
In a recent interview with Ashfaq, I asked what impact he feels ICAF has made since its founding in 1997, 13 years ago. His response is hopeful. So hopeful that you'll see why I've paired its cause with my printable 2010 calendar on the Creativity Portal. Our children are like little plantings eager for the nourishment of light and love to make them grow. Teaching them compassion by our own example and allowing them to fully express their creativity will go a long way to reaping benefits, now and in the future, collectively as humankind.
This week, as I begin sowing new seeds in my indoor Jiffy Pot pre-garden for eventual outdoor planting, the inner knowing that 'small seeds yield miraculous results' will stay close to my heart. Read my interview with Ashfaq Ishaq, ICAF founder here.

Butterflies are one of many muses in my life. In my home, they cover my walls, they hang from the ceiling and decorate antique glasses. Some are made of cotton, some are made of silk and then there’s just a few made of paper.
