Creative Challenge: What kind of bird is this?

Black birds are a common sight in the Midwest, and what might first appear as a common Old World Blackbird, may in fact be another type of bird all together. Blackbirds (Thrush) have orange beaks, and the bird posing in this series of photos does not.

I took these photos during the month of May in Northern Illinois. During a walk by a large lake, I noticed a bird hopping around the branches of a small tree, just supposing for a few snapshots!

If you're up to the creative challenge of learning the exact name and species of this silky flying creature, visit the Cornell Lab of Ornithology's Web site www.allaboutbirds.org and use their bird profiler/identifier tool to see what kind of bird it is. If you're a bird enthusiast, you'll enjoy browsing through their bird guide (there's literally thousands of species of birds in the world), learning birding basics, and downloading free bird songs.
