How to Make a Star-Spangled Mosaic Serving Tray
By Joy St. Germain
This colorful mosaic serving tray is easy to make and will brighten up your summer parties. If you love putting together jigsaw puzzles you'll love creating mosaics. [This star-spangled design is especially nice around the Fourth of July!]
Tools & Supplies Used
Start with a plain wooden tray.
Paint the tray with 2 coats of acrylic paint.
Glue the tile on to the tray in a random pattern. Paint the inside edge of the tray with sealer to protect it from grout.
Next, mix up your grout and scoop a large dollop on the tray.
Using a paint scraper, push the grout into the tile.
Let the grout sit a few minutes, then use a damp sponge to wipe off the excess grout.
Continue wiping off the grout with a damp sponge. Don't let it dry on the tile.
Stamp decorative stars on the side of the tray. You can use a foam or rubber star stamp and acrylic paint.
When the tray is completely dry add 2-3 coats of protective sealer. •
