I designed my first fake fun puzzle in 2005 (Animals Puzzle #12) and it became an instant, hilarious hit! Parents and teachers (and even a college professor studying the psychological effects of stress-induced not-word-finding in students) sent me notes of love and adoration asking for more, so I designed a slew of 'em in this brilliant volume that can be used over and over year after year.

4 Keys to Pulling Off Winning April Fools' Pranks
April first is one extra special day out of the year that creative, innovative thinking can flourish everywhere: at home, in the classroom, and at the office.
Funning around on April Fools' day is ripe for opportunities for creativity and imagination to rein supreme. We love playful jokes that contain the element of surprise, twist mundane perceptions into delightful new ones, and especially those that create unbelievable new realities that test our sense of actuality.
If your trick includes altering perceptions of someone else's environment or personal property, keep these tips in mind for the best results:
- No-Harm Rule: The best April Fools' jokes leave everyone laughing at the end. All parties, the prankster and the pranked come out best when not embarrassed or demeaned. A good sign of a healthy joke is the viral effect: your still-smiling target quickly turning around and passing on the fun.
- Timing: Timing is of the essence when executing your joke. It is best to spring the surprise when receptiveness and good humor will win out, not in the middle of a heated deadline or other chaos in the day.
- Respectful of Personal Property and Spaces: Be careful about incorporating other people's personal "stuff" in your pranking if it will cause undue stress or problems. This is especially true with personal space and items and devices that affect office or school productivity.
- 'Make Everyone More Clever' Principle: Cliche jokes may work and viral memes can amuse, but new and unexpected stunts are witty and clever. Invent a gag that you've never seen before and when you see the fruit of your labor overflow in a hoaxful cornucopia, sun in the light of an excellent job well done. Bonus if everyone feels more clever and creative at the end.
